Alphabet photography started as a creativity exercise and quickly developed into an obsession for Carmen Rose. Wandering a city street became a game of “find the alphabet letter” in the surrounding environment. Carmen Rose often found herself stopping to take photographs as she was on the way somewhere or making a mental note of places to visit when the lighting was better. Before long she had a significant collection of letters and started to look them over to see what was missing. This resulted in a short list of letters and Carmen began looking everywhere for letters such as “R” and “Q.” The collection grew to well over a hundred photographs of local architectural elements that could all be found in and around Staunton, Virginia. The obsession continued at home as the artist looked around and saw alphabet letters in kitchen utensils and around the house. This resulted in the “Home” collection which is primarily made up of photographs taken in the artist’s kitchen.
Photos are available in black and white and are sold at $5.00 for a 4x6. 5x7's are available upon request. We mail photographs using USPS or arrangements can be made to pick up your order locally at Carmen Rose Studio in the Professional Building, suite 108 in Staunton, VA. Each letter is sold individually and looks fantastic in custom framing though this option can be costly. Currently large retail stores such as Target have a variety of ready made framing options available fitting three to six letters.
